STIRLING FSC AWARDED CANSKATE PILOT PROGRAM!!!
Our club is just 1 in 35 selected to test-drive Skate Canada's newest version of the CanSkate program. CanSkate, which includes Pre-CanSkate (formerly called Learn-to-Skate at our club), is Skate Canada's Flagship program. It is through the implementation of an excellent introductory skating program that Canada's youth learn the skills necessary to become excellent hockey skaters and figure skaters. This year the program is being retooled in order to implement the newest standards for developing skaters as identified by the Long Term Athlete Development model. It is a great honour to be selected to run the Pilot Program, because it means that Skate Canada is already confident in our current programs. Our program will be used to monitor and evolve the programs that other skating clubs will run in future years. Lesley McGuire, recently named one of Canada's Best of the Best CanSkate coaches, will be spearheading this pilot program. All our coaches, Program Assistants and Executive are on-board, and are exciting to be test-driving the new CanSkate Program.

OTHER PROGRAM CHANGES
We will continue to offer last-year's highly successful CanSkate FUNdamentals program, an accelerated figure skating program based on the new Long-Term Athelete Development model. Ask at registration for specific qualifications for your skater.

CanSkate Freeskate Session
Due to the large number of CanSkaters currently moving into figure skating and taking private lessons, we have dedicated an hour of ice-time on Tuesdays to accommodate them. This ice will be for CanSkate level skaters only! Separating the youngest skaters from the older skaters will help keep everyone safer on the ice, as well as providing a better skating experience for everyone.

COMING SOON: CAN-POWER SKATE!!
We are currently working on coaching requirements and logistics in order to be able to offer the CanPower Skate Program!! This program is of particular interest to hockey players as is exponentially increases their skatings skills, which of course makes them so much more effective on the ice. CanPower Skate is an action-packed, high-energy instructional power skating program geared to hickey and ringette skaters that focuses on balanace, power, agility, speed and endurance. Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations.
CanPower Skate is geared to skaters aged approximately six or older who already have basic forward and backward skating skills. They must be able to skate the length of th eice using alternate strides and must be able to stop on commance without using the boards.
We are looking to be able to offer this program in January of 2011.

After placing third at last year's Jr. Nationals for Novice Men, Peter placed 1st at the Ontario Winter Games. He was invited to both the Provincial and the National Development Training camps, and recently placed 5th in his first international competition, Skate Detriot! Way to go Pete!
