ABOUT PRE-POWER SKATING
This program is for children aged 6-10 who are interested in improving their skating skills with the intention of playing hockey, or for children already playing hockey. Skaters must complete one year of Pre-CanSkate (formerly Learn-to-Skate) in order to be able to take Pre-Power. This program will run at the same time as Pre-CanSkate (Thursdays, 6-6:30pm).
MANDATORY FUNDRAISING, ALL PROGRAMS
This year our mandatory fundraiser will be a Skate-a-Thon to be held November 17th during our CanSkate programming. Information will be available at registration.
CHANGES TO CANSKATE
Because the new Pilot Program is incorporating many of the ideas we put into our Fundamentals program, we will only be offering CanSkate this season. All Can-Skaters of every level will skate on Tuesday evenings once again.
WHAT COMES AFTER CANSKATE??? STARSKATE!!!

CanSkaters who are ready to do move beyond the basics should consider private lessons with a coach on our Tuesday evening ice (3:50-4:50 or Thursday evening ice before CanSkate. Skaters progress more quickly with the help of private or very small group coaching! Coaching fees are paid to individual coaches and are the responsibility of the parent. When skaters complete all the required elements of the CanSkate program, they are ready for STARSkate: a more independent program that focuses specifically on Skills, Dance, Freeskate and Interpretive. Our STARSkate program also includes Stroking, which helps build speed, strength, endurance and control. If you need more information about STARSkate, please speak to any of our executive or one of our coaches.
Following a bronze medal finish in Junior Men at the 2011 BMO Skate Canada Junior National Championships, Peter O'Brien really has his work cut out for him this season!
The 2011/2012 season will see Peter's freeskate music ("Dracula") remain unchanged; the choreography, however, is a whole new ball game. A big change is also taking place in the short program; Peter's brand new program (to music from "Once Upon Time in America") was choreographed by former World Champion, Jeffery Buttle, and Peter was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with a skater that he has looked up to his entire life.
Peter's first competition was Skate Detroit in July. Unfortunately, a disappointing short program performance left Peter in 7th place in Junior Men after the freeskate. He left Detroit with very definite goals for improvement and a profound determination to " dig deep" and find the mental strength needed to "do the job".
His efforts paid off at the Quebec Summer Provinicial competition in Pierrefonds in August. Both his short and freeskate performances were new "personal bests" and, with a combined score of 158, Peter was offered the opportunity that he has been working towards since joining the competitive ranks. In September of this year, Skate Canada will be sending Peter on his first International assignment. At the ISU Junior Grand Prix event in Brasov, Romania, he will be representing, not only Stirling FSC, the Eastern Ontario section, and Ontario but CANADA!
He is thrilled and deeply honoured to have been selected for this assignment and looks forward to sharing his experiences with his friends in Stirling when he returns for his Christmas visit! Way to go Pete!
Results are posted for Shining Waters, EOSIC, Spins and Spirals, National Adult STARSkate Championships, Ontario Winter Games and Gloucester Spring Festival
